Interesting article in today’s Guardian newspaper on Monsters film due for its uk release next friday. Posits the argument that it may be a game changer. Doubt it as Director Edwards has a particular and specific skillset that can’t be industrialised.
Go see the film if you get the chance.

Natural Breaks e-book

November 22, 2010

Just received, signed and returned my eBook version royalty contract for my Methuen Drama published stageplay Natural Breaks and Rhythms. Think its good that it’ll be available on Kindle, eReader etc, etc but not so good that it’ll be same retail price as the physical hard copy version. My recent paper Adaptation delivered at the 8th International Conference on The Book spoke about pricing models for eBooks. I think they should be significantly cheaper than hard copy version. Royalty rate is 10%. Not received a single check yet so expect to be receiving 10% of nothing for some time yet!

Decibel 2011

November 16, 2010

Decided after a meeting today to put an application in to Decibel 2011. It’s a bit last minute now. Going for a work-in-progress showcase of 57 Images Of My Father. Need to do an Arts Council application as well. Closes 1st December so very little time considering.

8th International Conference on The Book

November 9, 2010

Delivered presentation at the 8th International Conference on The Book which took place 6-8th in St Gallen, Switzerland.
Felt that my paper about how the film industry might provide a role model for the book industry really felt accurate after listening to the plenary speakers throughout the week with the panel discussion in particular alluding to many issues I discuss.
I have a month to make any amendments before submitting paper for possible inclusion in the International journal on the book.

Finally attendance confirmed so off to St Gallen, Switzerland on friday to present my paper.

st gallen library

I get there too late for the conference tour of the library you can see above. Full of rare books but hoping to get a sneak in at some point over the weekend.

Currently my paper has the Worst Title In The World so trying to retitle it (if allowed) before submission to the journal that accompanies the conference.

Title is ‘The Book’ an adaptation from the film: Technology, Narrative, Business & how the book industry might adapt the film.

See what I mean?
